As we’ve decided to finally visit the colorful Cinque Terre, I reached out and opened the app I knew I would use for this trip. Even though choosing a charming Airbnb in Cinque Terre didn’t prove to be difficult, I want to help make the perfect choice for your needs.
If you haven’t decided yet on where to stay in Cinque Terre and which village will better suit your needs, make sure to read this other comprehensive post where I recommend perfect accommodation for each of the 5 villages. I also help you understand what village is best for what and provide you with all the other useful information you’ll need when planning a trip.
However, this particular article is about the place we chose to stay in, a charming apartment in Riomaggiore.
A charming Airbnb in Cinque Terre
Why Riomaggiore?
To be honest, we chose Riomaggiore because this is where we found the most appropriate Airbnb based on our needs and all the factors we take into consideration.
As I did the research for the trip, I noticed Riomaggiore was a bit underrated. This was going to be obvious as we arrived on location. Especially as night fell, there weren’t many people around town.

However, for us, this was a great advantage. We always try to avoid crowded places, and for us, Riomaggiore had it all: a nice center with colorful buildings, the pictures small harbor with blue boats and the buildings shining in the sunset light, some Michelin stars restaurants serving fresh fish.
On top of that, the town is perfectly linked to all the others by train. It is the first town when you’re coming from La Spezia, or the last one as you travel from Levanto.
In the center, you’ll find plenty of pretty coffee shops, a pasticceria serving delicious local sweets, and some restaurants you won’t want to miss.
What I love about these authentic small Italian villages, is how you can just sit on a bench and observe the daily life of locals. Those old ladies going on about their day, meeting randomly on the street, and stopping by to discuss the events in their lives. People going out for dinner, all knowing each other.
Even though touristic, Riomaggiore is one of those kinds of places.
Our Airbnb in Cinque Terre
I must admit I haven’t really checked the location of the Airbnb we chose to stay in on our trip to the Cinque Terre. As I saw the pictures I fell for it and booked it immediately.
Before I get to all the other reasons why we loved this place, let me tell you what I always look for in every place I book:
- Location – yes, I know I’ve said I haven’t really checked this time, however, all the Cinque Terre are relatively small villages. That means that no matter where you choose to stay, you’ll be close to the main attractions and the train station.
- View – I just love a room with a view no matter where I travel to.
- Price – whenever I travel I don’t want to break the bank, but I also want the comfort and conditions a mid-range accommodation offers. The good news is that it won’t be hard to find a nice apartment in Cinque Terre, as compared to the Amalfi Coast for example.
- I only rent entire apartments.
- I check the ratings and reviews and make sure there aren’t any horror stories or anything I wouldn’t accept.
- How the place looks overall and what facilities it offers.
This being said, the Airbnb we chose in Riomaggiore offered all of the above.
Getting to the place was a bit tricky in the beginning, but once you know where it is, it won’t take you more than 10 minutes from the train station and 5 minutes from the city center.
The apartment is set on the highest road in Cinque Terre, which means we got to enjoy a stunning view. We woke up and had breakfast in style on the terrace overlooking the colorful buildings on the hill in front of us, and ended the day with a glass of wine admiring the sea.
Although we were only 3, the apartment can accommodate up to 6 persons in its 2 rooms.
The bedroom is very spacious and has a big bed, while the living room has a big and comfortable sofa bed. If you plan to spend more time in Cinque Terre, this apartment is perfect because it comes with a washing machine and a dishwasher.
The kitchen is fully equipped and we enjoyed brewing our coffee in the morning to have with the brioche you bought from the pasticceria in town.
The apartment is bright and you can access the terrace from both rooms, making it convenient when someone else sleeps in the room next door.
Maybe the only downside is its location on the top of the hill when you don’t want to spend every day climbing stairs, or if you carry heavy luggage.
For us, everything was just perfect, since we only spend a few nights here and we didn’t have a lot of stuff with us.

Villa Argia Seaside in Portovenere – I know Portovenere is not officially part of the Cinque Terre, but in my opinion, it is more beautiful than some of the other towns. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I can easily say this town offers a lot of options to spend the time.
You’ll have a beach close by, the streets are packed with small shops with local produce and handmade products, and the food is delicious. Here is where I ate one of the best ice creams in my life.
Coming back to the villa, the place is suitable when you travel with your family or more friends since it accommodates up to 8 people.
Its elegant interior is complemented by a seawater pool and a patio where you can enjoy your breakfast.
