The Amalfi Coast might be one of the most exclusive and expensive destinations in Italy. However, that doesn’t mean you cannot plan an escape on a budget, no matter if you are going for your honeymoon or simply looking for a special vacation. I’ve gathered here a list of great Amalfi Coast cheap hotels you can choose from, but also villages you should consider when you don’t know where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget.
Because the region is not only Positano, by choosing to stay in less popular places, you can pay much less. Additionally, when you choose to skip the peak season, prices will also become more reasonable and you will be able to choose a nice place to stay in.
A third thing to have in mind is looking for apartment-style accommodations and skipping hotels. You will have a kitchen and you can save money on food as well, when you choose to have breakfast and/or dinner there.
Another budget-friendly option would be to try housesitting in Italy – it is not for everyone, but could take you to the places you love, without breaking the bank.

And before we start looking at some great budget accommodation options for the Amalfi Coast, here are some tips that will help you plan your trip:

Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget
While many people might only consider Positano, Amalfi or even Sorrento when thinking about where to stay on the Amalfi Coast, there are plenty of other smaller villages with affordable accommodation options.
Here are a few of my favorite smaller towns on the Amalfi Coast, why to choose them, and a few charming places to look into.
PRAIANO
Praiano is set less than 8 kilometers away from Positano, offering the same stunning location, villas, and apartments with breathtaking views, for less.
By choosing to stay there, you will be able to spend your days in Positano, be close to boat departures for when you want to go to the islands, and you will also be close to the Fiordo di Furore.

Here are a few of my favorite options for apartments or hotels in Praiano:
As I’m writing this post I’m looking for accommodation myself and this villa with apartments has immediately caught my attention. That terrace is stunning, and I could imagine myself working or simply enjoying strong Italian coffee with that view.
Just a 1-minute walk from the beach, and close to a bus stop, you cannot get a better location than this.
Guests have enjoyed staying in this less popular village because they had the chance to skip the crowds.

Malú Apartments – Infinity sea view
A big apartment with 3 bedrooms, is the perfect choice when you are traveling with your family or a larger group of friends. The interior staircase with colorful mosaic is picture-perfect, while the terrace is where you will spend most of your time.
The window next to the bathtub is another point of interest, from where you can enjoy the immense blue while relaxing.
The apartment has air conditioning and the hotel has a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious local dishes.

VICO EQUENSE
Literally minutes away by train from Sorrento, this small village is set by the sea and offers accommodation at far lower rates than its more popular neighbor.
A train ticket to Sorrento costs only a few cents and will get to your town in less than 5 minutes. Forget about the crowds and live the perfect Italian vacation with the locals.

I have also chosen a few of my favorite options in the small town, and here they are:
A bit further away from the beach, this place will charm you with its stunning views that will make up for the 20 minutes walk. You will want to take that walk after each breakfast with all the delicious Italian sweets.
Guests loved the swimming pool, but also the fact that the hosts made them feel at home!

An unexpected surprize, this villa charms its guests with its location close to public transportation, but also with its big garden and charming architecture.
Rooms are recently reconated and offer all the comfort you might need on a shorter or longer vacation.

AGEROLA
Agerola has accommodation options with incredible views, however, it is not so easily accessible and you might need to rent a car. The village is tucked on the mountain top and the distance between Agerola to Positano is only 28 kilometers, you should expect to spend around one hour on the road.
Amalfi Coast cheap hotels for your dream vacation
When looking for cheap or affordable hotels on the Amalfi Coast, there are certain areas you must avoid, and certain villages to look after.
Even though Positano is the most popular destination, chances are you won’t find many cheap hotels there. That being said, check out my comprehensive guide for where to stay in Positano, because I have included there a few budget options.
You might not get to stay in a hotel, but you will still be in one of the most beautiful places in Italy and around the world.
On the other hand, Sorrento will place you not only in a perfect location for visiting the whole coast but also close to the lovely island of Capri, Ischia, or historic sites such as the Herculaneum or Pompei.
I’ve gathered here a list of apartment-style accommodation options for Sorrento that will help you make an informed choice.
Here are a few other Amalfi Coast cheap hotels worth checking out in places like Vietri, Cetara, Scala, or even Maiori.
Tenuta Novecento Bioagriturismo
Everything about this place is amazing, from its location less than 3 km away from the famous Fiordo del Furore to the breathtaking garden views, and the peacefulness of the area.
Villa Fanella
Set between Sorrento and Positano, with a terrace with sunset views, this is a whole apartment where you will have privacy. It is true that you might need a car to stay here, but it will all be worth it because you will be 10 kilometers away from the center of Positano, and 15 minutes from Sorrento.
Una Volta
Rooms with a bathtub by the window with an authentic design, they provide also delicious breakfast. The hotel is set 2.5 kilometers away from one of the nicest beaches on the Amalfi Coast, the Marina di Vietri Beach.
You will also have free parking at the hotel, for when you choose to rent a car and travel around without having to worry about finding a parking space or paying for it at the hotel.
Casa Clotide
Set in Maiori, above the main area of the city, you can see the sea from the balcony and from both bedrooms. You will have access to a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine and fridge.
Guests staying here appreciated the warm welcome by the host, with cold lemonade and fresh fruit, but also the fact that the apartment is set close to a supermarket and 7 minutes away from the beach.
Casa Wanda
A simple accommodation option offering beautiful views and incredible services. You’ll have a supermarket right around the corner, and the beach only a short walk away.
You will have plenty of space here and a private kitchen, making it the perfect choice for when you plan on staying for at least a few days or even a week.
Villa Anna
A remote spacious 3-bedroom hillside villa with an outdoor swimming pool and a terrace with a fantastic view.
Apart from the outdoor hot tub, the table set on the terrace is ideal for meals you will never forget.
Sopra il limoneto, Cetara
Above the lemon grove – that’s the literal translation of this accommodation place located in Cetara. And that’s because from the garden you can admire beautiful lemon groves (and olive trees) and the deep blue sea.
When staying here, you’ll have access to an outdoor swimming pool, but this is also a great place for those traveling with kids because they will find here also a playground.
It might not be so easy to find this place, since it is tucked away on the hilltop, but you won’t regret it.
Villa Paradise Resort, Agerola
A classic Italian accommodation option tucked away with a breathtaking view. You can relax on the terrace or on your private balcony, overlooking the Amalfi Coast.
It is a place with exceptional guest reviews, that will set you close to most of the important attractions on the coastline.
